Frederick van Wyk comes to Reem Neuroscience, having worked in South Africa in private practice and in the UAE in clinics and hospitals. He obtained the Masters degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Johannesburg in 1997. He also completed the BA Honours degree in Psychology and BA in Personnel Management.

Frederick worked in private practice for 11 years in Cape Town. There he worked with children and parents – individually, in groups and in schools. He often lectured parents and teachers on childhood emotional health.

Frederick worked with children who have experienced trauma, abuse, bereavement, ADHD, parental divorce and those who have problems with adjustment. As younger children find it difficult to verbalize their challenges, he uses play therapy and projective techniques to identify difficulties and foster healing. With older children and teenagers he uses more conventional approaches, but provides for creative expression. He helps teenagers to enter the adult life with confidence through career guidance and standardized psychometric tests.

In the UAE he worked extensively with diagnosing and treating autism, ADHD, scholastic problems and behavioural problems. Children as young as two years old, and teenagers up to 19 are benefiting from his work.
